Do a bit of research. When you start searching for potential bands, think about the wedding or party you have been too lately. If you can think of one, then ask that couple or the party host of that time to provide you with references. Event planners will always be a great source of bands. You may also ask your friends and colleagues for recommendations.

The type of band you want. You can hire different bands. Determine which type of music would you like to be played, Beyonce, Ed Sheeran, Marvin Gaye. Some are set up into playing a variety of music in order to accommodate all the guests no matter what their age are, and their taste in music. You can find a group that focus on one genre.

Ask questions. When you meet up with a potential band, you should bring with you a list of questions about the things that you would like to ask from them. Some questions to ask are, what is their favorite song to pay on weddings, their playlists, if they can work with you with the list of songs, how many they are on the group, the instruments available, and more.

Attend a showcase. You may have the opportunity to hear them even before you book them through attending showcases which the band you are eyeing is performing. This is the best way to determine if their sound is perfect for your wedding. Pay attention also to the transitions between songs.

Review the contract first before signing. The contract contains the fees, the date, time, and venue of the wedding, etc. Read it carefully. See what the terms and agreement is in case you cancel the service, like how much the deposit is, and if it is for free cancellation, and until when. Expect to pay the air fair when the band will have to fly to attend the wedding.

Know their genre. Every band has his or her music genre, pop, rock, country, etc. Think about what you would like to achieve and feel during the event. Ask them what genre do they play, and if it is more than one. Those who can play different genres is your best pick, with them you can just let them sing any kind of song you want.

Make a playlist, but trust the band. While you plan for the reception, think about which songs do you often enjoy dancing into, and the songs your family and friends you might enjoy. Let the band know some of the songs you like, but it is important that you let them know that you trust in them about which songs could keep your guest standing on the dance floor.
