Cleaning Instructions For Faux Fur Area Rugs

By Anthony Richardson

Fake fur has gained immense popularity over the recent years this is because the use of real fur has been limited to protect the animal rights. Its not easy to distinguish between real and faux fur area rugs because they seem almost the same to naked eyes. You may spot a few differences if you have knowledge regarding fake and real fur.

The good thing about faux fur is that it is highly resistant to high temperatures and is not much affected by insect damage. You could attempt cleaning your own rug without fearing that you would damage it. It could be either hand washed or machine washed depending on factors like manufacturer's suggestions and the length of the fiber.

For instance, if the fur length is long, then its better that you do a bit of hand washing because machine washing may cause knotting and it would completely ruin the look of it. Its better to follow the manufacturer's guidelines and if it says dry clean only then do not attempt to wash at all because it might damage the fibers and your rug would loose its shape completely.

Its not a difficult task to take care of a synthetic rug in fact, its much more convenient and feasible as compared to the real thing. Use a mild washing detergent and adhere from exposing it to direct sunlight as it could damage the fibers as well as the color of it/

Machine drying is also not recommended because it ends up creating knots and there is a chance that the synthetic fiber could get damaged. So, its better to air dry your rug indoors where its all bright and airy. Avoid putting it in a spot that is exposed to direct sunlight. You could machine wash the product only if your machine has a milder setting.

Color fading is completely avoidable provided you do not expose it under direct sunlight. Also, whilst drying it, always put it on a rack or hanger instead of a flat surface because when you put it on a flat surface it takes a lot of time to get it all dried up. To speed up the drying process you could put up a fan and it would be dried in no time.

Its very common to experience that even when you hand wash it, some loops and knots are still formed. They can be easily removed whilst using a soft brush and gently brushing down the whole rug. Brushing helps in smoothing out the knots and it appears to look fluffy and smooth again. To add softness, you could spray a little bit of fabric conditioner and then brush it out. Try to brush it as gently as you can otherwise it could get damaged.

If you keep such products in good condition it means they would last you a life time. You should keep them neat looking as they could brighten up any room you like. Its all about how motivated and dedicated you are to take care of them in a proper manner.
