Faux furs are not only used for clothing. Also, used for some fashion accessories, stuffed animals, and some types of home decorations such as bedding, pillows, throws, and faux fur blanket. These are also used in many other projects since it can be done by the use of a sewing machine. An original wool is made thicker compared to fake ones, and this is why it needs a special type of machine, but it can also be sewn by hands.

It is increasingly utilized recently for fashion designing. An example of faux furs in fashion designing are trapper hats and jackets. These are usually used in winter clothing. A lot of popular designers are now starting promotions on their collections for fake fur.

The factors that are driving the designers to choose fake rather than real is its color and its volume, this is because they can just control it easily. Unlike the real furs, it can be colored in any shade, thus, allowing the combinations of any color. These are also made resistant and durable to any environmental attacks.

Fake furs were made in many variety of materials and this includes polymers. The most common polymers used are modacrylics and acrylics, and some other polymer blends. Acrylic polymers are chemicals coming from air, coal, petroleum, water, and limestone. Secondary monomers are also added for improving the absorption of dyes into the acrylic fibers. Modacrylic polymers are made from monomers such as vinyl chloride and acrylonitrile.

Both acrylics and modacrylics are so much useful during the manufacturing since they are made springy and light weight. These may also be heat, soot, smoke, and sunlight resistant. They can also resist to any mildews and susceptible from insect attacks. These also can be dried very quickly due to its low absorbency.

Materials such as wool, silk, and mohair helps in improving the look of the garment. The materials which may be used for the backings are wool or cotton with polypropylene. To imitate the true design, designers would match the colors with originals furs.

There are many advantages and as well disadvantages of this. The advantages include not animal use product, can be sewn easily, and no need for preservation to prevent deterioration. The disadvantages include not letting the skin breathe for insulation, made from polymer materials, and cannot keep snow from melting.
