Tips For Unconventional And Best Sci Fi Books

By Marylou Forbes

People who love to read will normally go for science fictions and fantasy genres. This is most likely because anything can happen in these stories. As long as the author makes the idea seem plausible, then it is a good story to pursue. It does not even matter if there are rules or no rules being followed for it.

However, there should be benefits in breaking the rules. Instead of following the normal conventions for your stories, you might want to break the rules a bit so that you can tell a fascinating story. Here are some of those normal rules in the best sci fi books that you should try to break when you are writing this story.

First, you should try to do away with the third-person omniscient. This means that yous should avoid having to use a third person narrative where the readers can see what is in the head of every character of the story. In a nutshell, you should avoid having to expose everything through this third person omniscient.

Avoid infodumps. This basically says that you should stop dumping on the readers a boat load of backstories and even technical schematics. If you push these information down the throat of your readers, they will definitely put down your book and look for another one they can read.

Having one book should become the norm once again. Instead of the popular trilogies and chronicle types of books, a writer should take it as a challenge to improve his or her writing skills and aim to have just one book. If you have one book, then you can definitely aim for a better market since you do not have to entice them to buy the sequel.

Try to create a plot where the story does not have to rely on a portal to have the fantasy take effect. Most of the fantasy stories these days take on the premise of having discovered portals or have accidentally fallen into portals before they are taken into a new world. If a world can be discovered without going through portals, then that should be good.

Space travels or light travels should also be taken away of the common plot for science fiction plots. Of course, it is definitely awesome to warp speed or to jump into hyperspace. However, there is a bit less realism in there. It might be exciting to go for space travels but the charm has already worn off after being used in lots of science fictions these days.

It is also a must for you to do away with magic. Regardless of whether it is a science fiction or a fantasy story, magic is commonly used. It might be better for you to find a plot where you can only have the magic as a source of rumor but not really the premise of your story. You can use other premises for this plot.

Using present tense should be encouraged these days. Most writers do not really want to use present tense because they think it is too disconcerting. However, you can actually take advantage of present tenses if you want to make the story more immediate. You can make your story work better if you use the present tense.
