Have you noticed how the current economic situation has created
its own momentum of fear? Stimulus efforts (from individuals,
communities or nations) seem virtually ineffective in this sea of
constant, negative news feeds. As a result, the doubts and fears people
may already be entertaining tend to get reinforced.
So, what is adversity to the entrepreneur? Once understood, it can be used to inform our goals and visions. Misunderstood, it will feed our excuses and lingering doubts about what we want for our business and our life.We can choose to see adversity as the challenge for focusing anew and learning from our difficulties. Otherwise, we will find ourselves sagging from the relentless negative reports about global economies, or even buckling under the weight of failures close to home.
The Heart of the Entrepreneur
Do you see the challenge or just the adversity in these situations? The heart ventures forth and is courageous. The mind measures and analyzes. Entrepreneurs know that they can never create by mere analysis, even though measurement is a necessary support and feedback tool. Some of you may remember Captain Kirk, of the TV show Star Trek. He's the Heart of the Enterprise and Mr. Spock is his right-hand lieutenant. Kirk sets the vision and leads his team to "Boldly Go Where No One Has Gone Before". Mr. Spock makes sure the systems, processes and accountability are in place and functional so the Enterprise can accomplish its mission. Only the heart can set the real goals and visions needed to lead a successful mission.
Mastering Change
By taking charge of their dreams and embracing the challenges of the heart, entrepreneurs call on their faithful supporter, the mind, to do their bidding. In this way, they feed their strength while diminishing their fears. Entrepreneurs who are already focused and building their dreams are creatively riding these rough waves of change without being tossed around in the sea of chaos. They are confident about managing change and even relish the challenge. The Chinese use one symbol of characters in their writing for the word CHANGE. It has two opposing meanings: adversity and opportunity. That's because it's really two sides of the same coin. We are either creating more limitations or raising our expectations to conquer new challenges and goals. Either way, adversity is a natural part of life. It's what we do about it that makes all the difference.
In his webinar called Turning Adversity Into Opportunity, Tulshi Sen, author of Ancient Secrets of Success for Today's World, provides timely, powerful advice to help people examine their world from the Heart of Consciousness, while building the capacity of the mind to believe and hold their own visions of success. He teaches that the true purpose of adversity in life is to meet and overcome the challenges set by the heart for it's own progress and fulfillment. In doing so, we can conquer our greatest enemy, the fear of poverty, once and for all.
