Travel Tips For Bali - Jimbaran Bay

The bay of Jimbaran is located just south of the international airport and Kuta beach. Its transformation from sleepy fishing village to five-star destination occurred during the course of the 1980's. Although home to several mid market hotels Jimbaran Bay is best known for the array of five-star boutique hotels that now call this perfect slice of paradise home.

Although Jimbaran Bay houses some of the finest luxury hotels in the world, its origins are based on the fishing village that remains fully operational today. Jimbaran is unlike many other coastal areas in Bali that have fully converted from fishing villages into tourist haunts crowded with umbrellas, hawkers and surfboards. The bay exploits its natural potential as a fishing village with the establishment of rows of seafood restaurants serving a daily catch of fresh fish and crustaceans.

Jimbaran is now known internationally as a haven for the finest seafood (both raw and processed) that the island of Bali has to offer. This small strip of paradise is considered the ultimate combination of relaxed ambience and boutique style accommodation.

There are three recognizable clusters of seafood restaurants along the stretch of beach that act as a major tourist draw card in the evenings when the Bay becomes lit up by picture perfect sunsets. An increasing number of boutique shops are beginning to appear in the area but there remains little or no nightlife.

It's recommended visitors arrive by 5pm, take up a prime position in one of the many restaurants, order a meal and enjoy the perfect, romantic sunsets. The ambience is relaxed though engaging with a swathe of activity to take in whilst enjoying a pre-dinner drink or cocktail.

The beach itself is recognized as one of the best Bali has to offer. Fine white powdery sand and calm crystal waters make it extremely conducive to swimming and water sports for children and families. A relaxing stroll through the streets of Jimbaran is an adventure in itself as you take it the sights, sounds and smells of the local area.

A traditional fish market still operates at the northern end of the beach adjacent to Jalan Tukad Ayung. The fresh daily catch arrives in the market every morning and customers include some of Bali's finest restaurants. It's best to visit the market between 6am and 8am to fully indulge in the experience.
